Asiad pullout? Tim Cone, PBA Board to hold press conference Tuesday

Is Gilas Pilipinas withdrawing from the 19th Asian Games?

This speculation emerged following a media advisory sent on Monday night, indicating that Gilas Pilipinas interim coach Tim Cone and the PBA Board of Governors would hold a press conference on Tuesday afternoon.

“Attention PBAPC: PBA Board and coach Tim Cone will hold a presscon tomorrow (Tuesday, Sept 19) at 1 pm at the PBA office in Libis, QC. See you,” stated an advisory sent to PBA Press Corps members.

The press conference advisory followed reports that the Hangzhou Asian Games Organizing Committee (HAGOC) denied the appeal to include Calvin Abueva and Jason Perkins in the Gilas Pilipinas team bound for the Asiad.

Additionally, there was a possibility that Terrence Romeo and Moala Tautuaa would also be removed from Gilas’ 12-man lineup, potentially leaving Cone with just eight players for the tournament.
However, there is a last-ditch effort by Philippine Olympic Committee chair Abraham Tolentino to appeal the inclusion of the four players in the “Gilas 12,” as he is scheduled to fly to Hangzhou, China, on Tuesday.
