FEU Lady Tamaraws, San Sebastian Lady Stags score separate wins in Shakey’s Super League

The Far Eastern University Lady Tamaraws and the San Sebastian College-Recoletos Lady Stags booked their first wins in the Shakey’s Super League Pre-Season tournament on Monday night at the Filoil EcoOil Centre in San Juan.

The Lady Tamaraws needed only 77 minutes to post a 25-23, 25-14, and 25-18 straight-set victory over the Mapua University Lady Cardinals to take an early lead in the Pool D standings.

Alyzza Devosora sizzled with 18 points on 14 attacks and four service aces to be named Player of the Game, while Gerzel Petallo added 10 markers for the Manolo Refugia-led Lady Tamaraws.

“Una pa lang (na laro) kaya medyo kinakabahan kasi first time na sumalang ulit. Sobrang happy din po kasi lahat kami, nag-ambag sa team,” said Devosora.

The Lady Stags, on the other hand, carved out a 25-20, 21-25, 25-20, and 25-12 triumph over the Jose Rizal University Lady Bombers to stay ahead in Pool A.

Katherine Santos unloaded 20 points on 16 hits, two service aces, and two blocks, as Zenith Deposoy and Christina Marasigan contributed 18 and 13 points, respectively, for the Lady Stags.

“It’s a good start. Tsaka ‘yan makakalaban namin sa NCAA, at least masusukat na namin ‘yung kalaban, although malayo pa marami pang pwede mangyari. Pwedeng mag-improve sila, pwedeng mag-improve kami. At least may psychological advantage na kami,” said Lady Stags assistant coach Clint Malazo.
