Jarred Vanderbilt inks 4-year extension with the Lakers

Defensive lynchpin Jarred Vanderbilt reportedly agreed to a four-year, $48 million deal to stay with the Los Angeles Lakers on Saturday.

The deal includes a player option in the fourth year, according to ESPN.

The Lakers acquired Vanderbilt through a mid-season trade last year with the Utah Jazz. The 6’9 forward appeared in 26 games for the Purple and Gold and averaged 7.2 points, 6.7 rebounds, and 1.2 steals.

Vanderbilt was the 41st overall pick by the Orlando Magic in the 2018 NBA draft. He never got to play with the Magic, as he was immediately traded to the Denver Nuggets, where he spent the first two seasons of his career. He also played for the Minnesota Timberwolves and Utah.

Just this offseason, the Lakers have successfully signed Vanderbilt, Anthony Davis, Austin Reaves, D’Angelo Russell, and Rui Hachimura to multiyear extensions. (MJD)
