Letran coach acknowledges challenges ahead in pursuit of 4th consecutive NCAA title

The Colegio de San Juan de Letran Knights are preparing for a challenging title defense in the NCAA Season 99 men’s basketball tournament, set to commence this Sunday afternoon at the SM Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City.

New Knights head coach Rensy Bajar acknowledges that securing a fourth consecutive NCAA title will be a tougher endeavor this season due to a revamped roster and stronger competition.

“This year will be more exciting, and at the same time, it may pressure siyempre as the defending champions and me as a new coach,” Bajar said during the pre-tournament press conference recently.

“I’m sure naman that all the teams are very strong and lahat nag-improve. This is a tough season because we have a lot of veterans. Pero, I’m sure our new guns will battle all the way,” he added.

Bajar, who succeeded the three-time champion coach Bonnie Tan, acknowledged that his restructured team is a work in progress. However, he remains hopeful that the players’ chemistry will improve as the tournament progresses.

“Lagi kong sinasabi sa mga bata na kailangan mag-improve tayo chemistry-wise and system-wise,” Bajar said. “’Yung pagiging matured ng team ay made-develop namin every game. ‘Yun ‘yung wish ko na hanggang dulo, pagdating ng dulo ay maging maayos ‘yung tinatakbo namin.”

This season, the Knights welcome back veteran players such as Kurt Reyson, Paolo Javillonar, Kobe Monje, and Andrey Guarino.
