WATCH: Pido Jarencio, NorthPort coaching staff celebrate John Amores’ selection

Team manager Alfredo “Pido” Jarencio and the entire NorthPort Batang Pier creatively announced their selection of controversial cager John Amores during the PBA Season 48 Rookie Draft on Sunday night.

Jarencio, team governor Erick Arejola, head coach Bonnie Tan, and his assistants Jaren Jarencio and Rensy Bajar clenched their fists while announcing Amores’ name as their fifth-round selection, as seen on television.

Amores gained notoriety after his involvement in a punching incident during his tenure with the Jose Rizal Heavy Bombers in an NCAA game against the College of St. Benilde Blazers last year.

The 24-year-old winger said in a pre-draft interview that managing his temper is an ongoing challenge but that he is doing his best to improve by undergoing anger management and studying sports psychology.

“Hindi po ako magpapaka-plastik dito, dumadating pa rin po sa time na umiinit pa rin ‘yung ulo ko. Pero hindi na po ganun katulad ng dati,” Amores said in an interview with One PH’s Sa Totoo Lang last Thursday.

“Alam ko sa sarili ko ano ‘yung limit ko, alam ko na rin sa sarili ko na na-work ko na siya na hanggang dito na lang, hindi ka na pwedeng lumampas diyan kung ano ‘yung pwedeng iinit ng ulo mo,” he added.
