Having represented the Philippines in multiple international volleyball competitions, Alyssa Valdez understands the pressure of carrying the flag and the hard work required for success.
With recent positive developments among Filipino athletes aiming for medals at this year’s Olympics, the “Phenom” feels immense pride, and we stand with her.
“Our Filipino athletes have trained tirelessly, overcome countless challenges, and made sacrifices to reach to this point. This is a momentous occasion, not just for them, but for all of us who cheer them on,” she said in a heartfelt message posted on her Instagram.
Valdez also urged Filipinos to collectively support the national athletes as they face the final stages of their respective tournaments, just a few steps closer to winning medals for the country. But she also emphasized that, regardless of the result, they are already champions.
“Samahan at i-celebrate ang ating mga Champion athletes ngayon darating na Olympics. Sabay-sabay tayo—Laban PILIPINAS!!”
As of Saturday night, August 3, pole vaulter EJ Obiena secured his finals slot by successfully clearing 5.75 meters.
Meanwhile, gymnast Carlos Yulo won gold in the men’s floor exercise final.
Boxers Carlo Paalam and Nesthy Petecio, both competing in the 57 kg division, will face off in the quarterfinal and round of 16, respectively.
