Netizens criticized PBA Commissioner Willie Marcial for fining Converge FiberXers assistant coach Danilo “Danny” Ildefonso over his social media comments, which were considered detrimental to the league.
Reacting to a Fastbreak Facebook post about the penalty, some commenters suggested that Marcial may have taken offense to Ildefonso’s remarks about “farm teams” in the professional league.

However, some netizens defended Marcial, stating that he made the right decision as Ildefonso’s comments were allegedly damaging to the PBA’s reputation.

Ildefonso made the controversial “farm team” comment in response to two netizens who suggested that the PBA should ban his son, Dave Ildefonso, for reportedly declining the rookie contract offered by the NorthPort Batang Pier.
Marcial explained that the former two-time PBA MVP was fined P20,000 for his remarks, which referred to a team as a “farm team” on social media.
NorthPort Batang Pier has often been labeled a “farm team” by basketball fans due to their tendency to trade key players to other teams under the San Miguel Corporation umbrella, such as the San Miguel Beermen, Barangay Ginebra San Miguel Kings, and Magnolia Chicken Timplados Hotshots.
