Blackwater Bossing import George King’s eligibility issue is reportedly hindering the Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas (SBP) from pursuing his naturalization.
According to a report from DWAR Abante Radyo’s SPORTSNOW program, King is likely ineligible to play for the Gilas in FIBA tournaments due to his prior participation with Team USA.
“The SBP is interested, kayang i-naturalize ‘yan, kaso paano?”A SBP source was quoted in the radio program’s report.
The 30-year-old King has played for three games with Team USA in the 2023 FIBA World Cup Americas Qualifiers, where he averaged 2.7 points and two rebounds.
FIBA rules prevent players from suiting up for two countries in their sanctioned tournaments.
King, who scored 64 points in the Bossing’s 139-118 victory over the Rain or Shine Elasto Painters on Monday, previously expressed his desire to don the blue and gold jersey of the Gilas Pilipinas.
