Though life led them down different paths, Oliver Almadro remains a proud coach to former Ateneo de Manila University (ADMU) mentees, Vanie Gandler and Maddie Madayag, now making names in both local and international volleyball.
The seasoned coach shared a few photos with heartfelt messages for the two rising stars.
Gandler, whom he met during a friendly match between Petro Gazz Angels and Cignal HD Spikers in Cagayan de Oro, smiled warmly in their photo together.
“Proud of where you are now! Your hardwork & patience paid off. Good luck & God bless on your awesome career!” Almadro wrote.

Meanwhile, Madayag, now in Japan for her first stint in the SV.League, caught up with her collegiate mentor through a video call, as seen in a photo posted by Almadro.
“Good luck Maddie! God bless you there!” he said.

Almadro first took the Ateneo Blue Eagles women’s volleyball team under his wing in 2018, where he met then-senior player Maddie Madayag and rookie Vanie Gandler.
In his first year with Ateneo, he led the team to its third UAAP championship title, a feat he was unable to replicate until Gandler graduated.
Almadro now serves as the volleyball program director and head of operations for the UP Fighting Maroons and Petro Gazz Angels, respectively.
