University of Santo Tomas Growling Tigers head coach Alfredo “Pido” Jarencio stated that his team needs to elevate their performance as the UAAP Season 87 men’s basketball tournament moves into the second round.
According to the one-time UAAP champion coach, the Growling Tigers must work hard and improve their level of play if they aim to reach the Final Four for the first time since UAAP Season 82.
“Alam mo sa second round, it’s gonna be a different story kasi iba na ang labanan dun,” Jarencio said in a recent interview by sportswriters covering the UAAP. “Lahat ng teams mas kampante na, mas prepared na. Basta kami we will keep preparing.”
Growling Tigers guard Rence Padrigao concurred with Jarencio, noting that the games will be significantly tougher in the second round, particularly with the competitive battle among the third- to fifth-ranked teams.
“Second round, we’re expecting na the games are going to be tougher kasi nakalaban na lahat ng teams and nakita na namin ‘yung strengths and weaknesses ng isa’t isa,” Padrigao said.
“But then again, come second round, may mga adjustments na mangyayari, so we’re just expecting talaga na mas mahirap ‘yung mga maging panalo namin this coming second round,” he added.
The Growling Tigers finished the first round of eliminations in fourth place with a 4-3 win-loss slate.
