DeMarcus Cousins also considered as Converge’s import

Aside from Dwight Howard, the Converge FiberXers are also considering former NBA center DeMarcus Cousins as their import for the 2024-25 PBA Commissioner’s Cup next month.

According to FiberXers assistant coach Charles Tiu, the team management is determined to make a strong impact in the upcoming conference and is exploring high-caliber reinforcements like Howard or Cousins to bolster their campaign.

“Our bosses… Sila boss Dennis (Uy), Gov. Delta (Pineda), and boss Frank (Lao), they have all been very supportive, and obviously they want to get the best possible import that we can find,” Tiu said in an interview with DWAR Abante Radyo’s SPORTSNOW.

“Hopefully, these guys like Dwight or DeMarcus—at least I have had the relationship with them; they want to play with me, but tignan natin kung maco-convince natin sila,” he added.

The 34-year-old Cousins was the No. 5 overall pick of the Sacramento Kings in the 2010 NBA Rookie Draft. He spent seven years with the franchise before being traded to the New Orleans Pelicans in 2017.
Cousins later played for several teams, including the Golden State Warriors, Los Angeles Lakers, Houston Rockets, Los Angeles Clippers, Milwaukee Bucks, and Denver Nuggets, before continuing his basketball career overseas.

The burly 6-foot-10 center recently played for the Taiwan Mustangs alongside Howard and with the Zamboanga Valientes in the inaugural edition of The Asian Tournament.

The FiberXers are looking to improve on their recent PBA performance, where they exited in the quarterfinals of the Governors’ Cup after a tough 109-105 loss to the San Miguel Beermen in a do-or-die Game 5 last Sunday.
