Netizens praised the Games and Amusements Board (GAB) for revoking the professional playing license of NorthPort Batang Pier guard John Amores.
In comments on a Fastbreak Facebook post, many commended the government regulatory body for professional sports, saying it made the right move to prevent Amores from returning to the professional league.
Here are some of the netizens’ comments.
“Salamat gab sa action di tulad sa pba na na ok lang sa kanila kahit papatay na ng tao ang player.”
“Yes, do your job, GAB, not like the PBA tolerating the bad players to play & injure others.”
“Good decision!!!”
“Case closed. Thank you, GAB.”
“Good Decision, GAB.”
“GAB showed the weakness of PBA Com.”
“Dami naghahangad makapasok sa pba kahit nga bangko inaasam asam Yan! ung sayo pina alagwa mo pa Liga brgy na lng kaw pa siga Dyan! ”
“Kahiya hiya Lalo n s pamilya ng taong eto.”
“Good job”
“Buti naman at nang di pamarisan.”
In a statement released over the weekend, the GAB declared Amores guilty of “conduct unbecoming of a professional basketball player” and imposed the “severe penalty of revocation of his license.”
Amores is facing attempted homicide charges, along with his brother, for allegedly shooting a man following a heated altercation after a basketball game in Lumban, Laguna, last September
The PBA has banned Amores from the entire 2024-25 Commissioner’s Cup, stating he can only return to the Batang Pier if he secures clearance from his counselor.
This isn’t Amores’ first controversy. In July 2022, while playing for the Jose Rizal University Heavy Bombers, he punched University of the Philippines Fighting Maroons player Mark Belmonte during a pre-season game. Later that year, he was involved in another “basketbrawl” during an NCAA game, where he charged at the College of St. Benilde Blazers’ bench and punched several players.
