Eala exits ITF tilt ahead of Miami Open

Alex Eala suffered an early exit at the ITF Empire Women’s Indoor tournament, falling to Switzerland’s Valentina Ryser, 4-6, 6-2, 6-2, in the second round in Trnava, Slovakia.

Eala, the tournament’s third seed and world No. 140, started strong by breaking Ryser twice to take the opening set.

However, the unseeded Swiss stepped up in the second, racing to a 4-1 lead before leveling the match. Ryser then maintained her momentum in the decider as Eala struggled to capitalize on key points.

In doubles, Eala and Australian partner Talia Gibson forfeited their quarterfinal match against France’s Elsa Jacquemot and Algeria’s Ines Ibbou.

Eala now shifts her focus to the WTA Miami Open, where she has received a wildcard entry.
