Suarez’s backer Singson maintains: Na-mafia tayo

The camp of Charly Suarez expects a “no contest” ruling following the controversial ending to his WBO super featherweight title bout against champion Emmanuel Navarrete.

Suarez lost via technical decision after Navarrete sustained a cut above his left eyebrow in the sixth round of their fight.

Officials ruled it was caused by an accidental clash of heads, but video replays showed it was Suarez’s punch that inflicted the damage.

“Alam nating lahat, na-mafia tayo sa Amerika,” said former Ilocos Sur Governor Luis “Chavit” Singson, Suarez’s chief backer, in a press conference on Sunday.

Sila ang nasugatan eh,” he added.

The California State Athletic Commission is reportedly reviewing the bout and could overturn the result to a no-contest.

But Singson insisted the outcome should be more than that.

Halatang daya ’yun.”

Regardless of the commission’s final verdict, Singson emphasized that Suarez deserves a rematch.
