Pacquiao is expected to confirm a bout against reigning WBC welterweight champion Mario Barrios—a younger, taller opponent standing at 6 feet.
The former eight-division world champion last fought professionally in 2021, when he lost to Yordenis Ugas via unanimous decision. He later participated in exhibition matches against Korean vlogger DK Yoo in 2022 and Japanese kickboxer Rukiya Anpo in 2025.
The WBC recently ranked Pacquiao No. 5 in its welterweight division, paving the way for this high-profile title shot.
