IBF minimumweight champion Pedro Taduran is gunning for a more convincing win when he defends his title in a rematch against Japan’s Ginjiro Shigeoka on May 24 in Osaka.
In their first bout, Taduran scored a ninth-round stoppage, but his camp wants the rematch to end much earlier.
“’Di namin kailangan ng judge, ang kailangan namin early knockout. First round pa lang, dun na kami papasok. At kailangan talaga namin ng adjustment sa laban,” said Taduran’s coach, Carl Penalosa, before flying to Japan over the weekend.
They expect Shigeoka to adopt a more evasive, points-based approach to secure a hometown decision, something Taduran is determined to prevent.
“Kaya gagawin ko from Rounds 1 to 6, gagawin ko ang lahat para ma-knockout siya,” said Taduran.
Penalosa added that they have prepared multiple game plans depending on how Shigeoka approaches the fight.
“Mayroon kaming Plan A, Plan B, at Plan C,” he said. “‘Pag tinamaan siya (Shigeoka), hindi siya titigilan hanggat hindi ma-knockout.”
