Alas Pilipinas Men showered with praise after five-set thriller vs Cambodia

Volleyball fans showered Alas Pilipinas Men with praise after a heart-pounding five-set win over Cambodia, 25-21, 25-27, 32-30, 23-25, 15-8, on Saturday night in the 5th SEA V.League in Candon City, Ilocos Sur.

The hard-fought victory—Alas’ second in the tournament—kept their dreams of a historic title run alive heading into the final day of the opening leg.

Jade Disquitado and Leo Ordiales were the top performers, scoring 24 and 22 points, respectively, to help the Philippines survive Cambodia’s spirited challenge. It was Cambodia’s first time to win a set in the tournament—and they nearly forced an upset.

“ALAS PILIPINAS defeats Cambodia in five sets to claim their second victory in the 5th SEA VLeague in Candon City, Ilocos Sur! Laban, Alas Pilipinas! πŸ‡΅πŸ‡,” the Philippine National Volleyball Federation (PNVF) wrote in a Facebook post.

Fans were quick to celebrate in the comments:

“Hala nakakaproud kayo Alas Pilipinas πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‘, congratulations πŸŽ‰” – Ela Campos Penuliar

“Congrats Idol Josh YbaΓ±es… Ikaw ang inspiration ko has labero!” – Mbae Daganio

“Congratulations My Alas Pilipinas and My Idol Kuya Eco Adajar!! πŸ™ŒπŸ‘πŸ‡΅πŸ‡❤” – Maribel Nisperos

“SILVER NAMAN NA SANA TAYO πŸ‡΅πŸ‡πŸ†πŸ₯‡πŸ’ͺπŸ‘” – Rhoda Chele Louise Foster

“Praise Jesus Christ! Congrats!” – Donn Hugo

The win puts Alas Pilipinas, Thailand, and Indonesia in a tight three-way tie atop the standings with identical 2-1 records.

However, dropping the second set to previously winless Cambodia may affect the Philippines’ chances in potential tiebreakers based on set or point ratios.

The road to gold is still open—but the equation is tight. Alas must defeat Indonesia in straight sets or four sets on Sunday at 6 p.m. clash and hope for a favorable result when Cambodia battles Thailand earlier in the day. A Cambodian upset or even a five-set win by Thailand would strengthen the Philippines’ gold medal bid.

Regardless of the outcome, Alas Pilipinas has won the hearts of fans with their fighting spirit, resilience, and pride for flag and country.
