San Miguel Beermen team governor Robert Non believes June Mar Fajardo truly earned his record-extending 12th PBA Best Player of the Conference (BPC) award following his stellar showing in the ongoing Philippine Cup.
“He deserved it. Given sa stats, he’s number one. Talagang mahirap tapatan, ang laki,” said Non in an interview with DWAR Abante Radyo’s Zeus Valdez, referring to the 6-foot-11 big man from Pinamungahan, Cebu.
Fajardo collected 1,085 total points to secure the top individual honor—his ninth BPC in the Philippine Cup alone. “The Kraken” led the stats race with an average of 39.6 statistical points (489) and was also the top vote-getter from both the media (505) and fellow players (91).
In San Miguel’s 105-91 Game 4 victory over TNT Tropang 5G, Fajardo delivered a double-double performance of 15 points and 13 rebounds, pushing the Beermen to a 3-1 lead in the best-of-seven Finals series.
Non expects the same level of urgency and aggressiveness from the Beermen as they aim to clinch the title in Game 5.
“I expect them to play the same, with aggressiveness para din makapag-training na ‘yung Gilas players like June Mar and CJ (Perez). I think they will go (to Saudi) by the 29th,” he said.
“We’re not thinking about TNT’s Grand Slam. We’re thinking about winning the championship.”
