SMB’s Chris Ross mum on endgame miscues in Game 1 loss

San Miguel Beermen guard Chris Ross opted to stay silent following their controversial 99-96 loss to the TNT Tropang 5G in Game 1 of the PBA Philippine Cup Finals on Sunday night.

The veteran guard declined an interview request from DWAR Abante Radyo regarding the game’s contentious ending.

“No comment,” Ross told reporter Kristian Villaseñor.

Ross nearly played the hero for San Miguel, drilling a three-pointer that gave the Beermen a 96-94 lead with under two minutes left. However, he missed a crucial opportunity to extend the lead while they were still up 98-97 in the final minute.

He later forced a jump ball against TNT’s Jordan Heading but mistimed his jump, allowing Heading to tap the ball to a teammate, leading to a lost possession.

Ross finished with seven points—all scored in the fourth quarter—as part of San Miguel’s comeback from a 24-point deficit.

The 40-year-old guard was instrumental in the Beermen’s Game 7 win over Barangay Ginebra San Miguel in the semifinals, where he delivered a season-high 19 points, including 10 in the final frame.
