Columbus Fire and EMS introduces new $1.1M ladder truck

COLUMBUS, Ga. (WRBL) — The Columbus Fire and Emergency Medical Services Department put a new ladder truck into commission Thursday morning at Station 10.

In a tradition dating back to win fire trucks were pulled by horses, Columbus firefighters pushed the department's newest truck into the bay.

The truck is a $1.1 million ladder truck that will be at the station on Benning Road.

"The fire service is a tradition and we hold tight to those traditions. While recognizing a piece of modern equipment like this moves us into the future and allows us to provide the services that our citizens need today. But we never want to forget where we came from as we move forward," said Deputy Chief of Operations Daniel Macon.

A new truck like this doesn't just show up one day. The process to order and receive it takes about three years.
