University of the Philippines head coach Goldwyn Monteverde credited responsibility and collective effort as the Fighting Maroons broke their two-game slump with a 92-75 victory over the University of the East Red Warriors in UAAP Season 88.
“Whenever you fall short, the most important thing is taking responsibility. As a team, we need to work together, especially in times of losses,” Monteverde said after the win at the Quadricentennial Pavilion.
Monteverde singled out former Red Warrior Rey Remogat, who erupted for 21 points on six triples along with 10 assists, six rebounds, and two steals.
“The way he bounced back after two losses, kung paano niya pinaglabaan yung sarili niya kasi ito yung team niya—yun para sa akin malaking bagay na makita.”
UE showed fight early, racing to a 17-9 lead in the first quarter, but UP rallied behind Remogat and never looked back.
The win lifted the defending champions to 1-2, while UE dropped to 0-3.
