With the Philippines officially named host of the 2029 FIVB Volleyball Women’s World Championship, attention has turned to the projected ages of the current Alas Pilipinas stalwarts who could see action in the historic event on home soil.

A social media post by “Volleyball Lovers” featured photos of the national team mainstays with their ages by 2029, showing a roster that would be seasoned with international experience.

The breakdown lists Angel Canino (26), Eya Laure (30), Bella Belen (27), Vanie Gandler (28), Shaina Nitura (24), Alyssa Solomon (27), Leila Cruz (29), Clarisse Loresco (23), Dell Palomata (33), Mereophe Sharma (28), Thea Gagate (29), Madeleine Madayag (31), Marionne Alba (30), Jia Morado-de Guzman (34), Justine Jazareno (29), and Dawn Macandili-Catindig (33).

The mix of veterans and younger players underscores both the experience and maturity the squad is expected to bring if they remain in the national pool by then.

Many of these athletes were part of the team that competed in recent international tournaments and continental championships.

The FIVB and Volleyball World earlier confirmed that the 2029 edition will mark the first time the Women’s World Championship is hosted in the Philippines.

Asian Volleyball Confederation president Ramon Suzara said the country’s staging of the men’s competition this year proved the Philippines is capable of hosting world-class events, adding that organizers aim to deliver an even bigger showcase for the women’s edition in 2029.

The FIVB Women’s World Championship will feature 32 of the best teams in the world, competing across 64 matches in 17 days.

With the core of Alas Pilipinas projected to still be in their prime, Filipino fans are expected to witness a historic moment both on and off the court. (AC)
