Pat Riley calls Dwyane Wade the greatest Miami Heat player ever

Miami president Pat Riley claimed that Hall of Fame-bound Dwyane Wade is the greatest player to put on a Heat jersey, choosing him over LeBron James.

“As a Heat player, Dwyane is the greatest player who ever put on a uniform for us,” Riley said in a press conference on Wednesday.

The 78-year-old executive explained that Wade’s longer tenure with Miami made him a better Heat player than James.

“LeBron [James] was here for four years and gave us a tremendous lift and helped Dwyane achieve what he wanted to achieve. But over the body of work here in Miami, Dwyane is the greatest player who ever played for the Heat. That’s not an insult to LeBron; that’s because of his longevity and the short term that LeBron was here,” Riley added.

Miami drafted Wade fifth overall in the 2003 draft. He played 15 seasons with the Heat and became their franchise leader in points, games played, minutes played, assists, and steals.

He was also instrumental in Miami’s three title runs, especially in 2006, when he dominated in the finals series against Dallas, leading to his first and only Finals MVP award.

Wade will be enshrined in the Basketball Hall of Fame on Sunday. (MJD)
