V-League aims to restrict participating schools in Collegiate Challenge

The V-League is planning to limit the number of participating schools for its upcoming women’s and men’s Collegiate Challenge tournaments later this month.

According to Sports Vision president Ricky Palou, there are several schools that have expressed interest in joining, but they are planning to limit the number to eight schools each for the women’s and men’s divisions.

“We are looking at eight teams, eight for men and eight for women. There are actually a lot of teams asking us if they could join,” Palou said in an interview with The Daily Tribune.

“We’re trying to look into it, but we’re really looking at eight teams so that it would be manageable for a round-robin format,” he added. “If we admit too many teams and you put them in brackets, not all teams get to play (each other).”

The tentative date for the start of the V-League is August 16, with Paco Arena as the possible venue for the elimination round matches before moving to a bigger venue for the playoffs.

The Ateneo de Manila University Blue Eagles ruled the women’s division last year, while the National University Bulldogs clinched the crown in the men’s division.
