De La Salle University Lady Spikers head coach Ramil de Jesus expressed his frustration with certain players who chose to turn professional despite still having remaining UAAP playing eligibility.
De Jesus mentioned his frustration, stating that it was disheartening to train some of the Lady Spikers players from the ground up, only to see them recruited into the professional ranks when they were already well-prepared.
“Napakahirap ngayon eh, kasi hindi natin alam gaano tatagal ‘yung players kasi ‘yung iba talagang trinain mo, then tomorrow hindi mo alam kung ano ang nasa isip ng bata,” De Jesus said in a post-game interview after the Lady Spikers’ win over the Adamson Lady Falcons on Saturday night.
“Tulad ngayon ang daming nawala, so hindi mo alam kung hanggang kailan ka sasamahan nung bata,” he added. “‘Yung mga sa commercial team talagang ina-eye ‘yung sa amin kasi defending champions, so talagang in-explore kung sino ‘yung tinatarget nila para makatulong dun sa team nila.”
In the offseason, Mereophe “Fifi” Sharma and Justine Jazareno made the decision to turn professional with the Akari Power Chargers, while Marite Espina has signed up with the Cignal HD Spikers.
Nevertheless, De Jesus finds solace in his deep pool of players, knowing that there is someone prepared to step up in place of those who have chosen to turn professional.
“So napakahirap kasi ‘yung transition. ‘Yung mga players kasi since senior high nai-train na natin tapos ito lang ‘yung time na ‘oh pwede nang pawalan’ kumbaga na-polish na natin eto, then nung pwede nang pakinabangan ng team, nawawala na,” De Jesus said.
“So ‘yun ‘yung pinakamahirap na part sa mga coaches, so ang maganda lang ay may ite-train ka na bago at ready na punan ‘yung ganung position, so ‘yun ‘yung magandang nangyayari ngayon kasi may mga ready na mag step up,” he added.
