UE president withdraws resignation as UAAP Season 86 board chairman

Dr. Zosimo Battad, the president of the University of the East (UE), will remain as the Season 86 board chairman, having retracted his verbal resignation almost two weeks ago.

Battad announced his resignation as chairman of the board on November 15. His decision followed the league’s imposition of a one-game suspension on UE center Precious Momowei for accumulating two unsportsmanlike fouls in the season.

On Saturday, Battad stated that he opted to remain as the board chairman, citing that his “reason prevailed over emotion.”

“This season has been marked by grace and goodwill, and I genuinely believe that, in the spirit of sportsmanship, we can achieve remarkable feats together,” Battad told reporters.

“After much reflecting, reason prevailed over emotion. I recognize the weight of my responsibilities and the impact of my decisions on the UAAP and its member institutions. With a clear focus on our shared goals, I am confident that we can overcome challenges and continue to elevate the standards of amateur sports in the country.”

Moreover, Battad urged the UAAP Board of Trustees to revisit rules and regulations to ensure that the guiding principles of the association align with the ever-evolving landscape of amateur sports.
