Roger Gorayeb sees Capital1 becoming PVL title contender soon

Capital1 Solar Energy Solar Spikers head coach Roger Gorayeb envisions his team becoming a title contender in the Premier Volleyball League (PVL) in the conferences to come.

According to the veteran mentor, he sees the performance of the Solar Spikers improving further once the players develop their chemistry and connection on the court.

“Lalakas pa kami,” Gorayeb said. “Happy ako dito sa group ng players ko na meron ako sa ngayon. All (of them are) good players (and) are coachable. Ano pa poproblemahin ko? Wala na akong problema.”

“What can I expect from the very short time that I have (with) these players? What can I expect in the future? We can form the best team (with these players); I do not want to brag; I just want to be simple,” he added.

Gorayeb also stressed the importance of lengthy preparation in forming a competitive team, which the Solar Spikers did not have during their PVL debut during the 2024 1st All-Filipino Conference.

“There are so many people making side comments (last conference); they are so impatient, they never thought that this was a less than six-month team,” the former national women’s volleyball team head coach said.

“Even if the national team picks all the players, pagsama samahin mo, and they play outside the country (with short preparation), they will never win,” he said. “We need more time (to form a title-contender team).”

After their massive 26-24, 25-20, and 25-18 upset over defending champions the Petro Gazz Angels on Tuesday night, the Solar Spikers will next face another powerhouse team in the Cignal HD Spikers later this week.

“Kahit Cignal or kung sino pa ‘yung makakalaban namin, we will be there; paghahandaan namin sila,” Gorayeb said. “We will perform even better sa naging performance namin against Petro Gazz.”
