Niño Cañaleta sparks Biñan’s rout over Nueva Ecija

Rommel Niño Cañaleta had a near-perfect performance as the Biñan Tatak Gel Beast Motorcycle GameX scored a 99-82 rout over the Nueva Ecija Rice Vanguards in the 2024 MPBL season on Tuesday night at the Alonte Sports Arena in Biñan, Laguna.

Cañaleta converted eight of his nine shot attempts, including a perfect 5-of-5 shooting clip from the three-point area, to finish with 23 points as Biñan improved to a 14-8 win-loss slate.

“‘Yung timing lang siguro ng depensa, kung ano ‘yung depensa na ibibigay nila sa akin, dun ko itinitira ‘yung mga shots ko,” Cañaleta said during his Player of the Game interview.

“Sana nga magtuloy tuloy na ‘yung ganitong laruan namin, sana maging consistent kami as a team sa depensa at sa opensa sa playoffs,” added the former PBA Slam Dunk champion.

Jeric James Pido added a season-best of 19 points, five assists, and four rebounds, while Jonathan Grey and John Murphy Raymundo ended with 15 and 12 points, respectively, for Biñan.

John Bryle Bahio tallied 16 points, eight rebounds, and four assists, while Jose Cullar and Chris Bitoon added 15 and 10 points, respectively, as the Rice Vanguards dropped to an 18-3 record.

Meanwhile, the Caloocan Batang Kankaloo (12-8) pulled off a 77-71 victory over the Pasay Voyagers (14-9). Marion Magat emerged as Player of the Game with 13 points and eight rebounds.

The Parañaque Patriots (14-9), on the other hand, scored an 88-78 triumph over the Marikina Shoemasters (7-15). John Uduba had a double-double of 20 points and 14 rebounds for the Patriots.
