President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. once again greeted Filipino gymnast Carlos Edriel Yulo after capturing his second gold medal in the 2024 Paris Olympics on Sunday night.
In a Facebook post on Monday midnight, the Chief Executive said that Yulo’s gold medal feats in the men’s artistic gymnastics floor exercise and vault event are something the entire Filipino population is to be proud of.
“No words can express how proud we are of you, Caloy! You have achieved GOLD for the Philippines not once, but twice! ” President Marcos wrote.
“Filipinos all over the world stood united, cheering and rooting for you. Aming ipinagmamalaki ang tagumpay mong nagniningning! Saludo kami sa iyo! ” he added.
Vice President Sara Duterte-Carpio also extended her congratulations to Yulo for becoming the second Filipino athlete to bag an Olympic gold medal.
“Ipinapaabot ng Office of the Vice President (OVP) ang taos-pusong pagbati kay Carlos Edriel Yulo para sa kanyang makasaysayang pagkamit ng kauna-unahang Gold medal ng Pilipinas sa larangan ng Artistic Gymnastics sa Paris 2024 Olympics! Mabuhay ka, Caloy! Mabuhay ang mga atletang Pilipino!” The Office of the Vice President wrote on their Facebook page.
Yulo captured his second Olympic gold medal on Sunday night after topping the vault event with 15.116 points—15.433 in the first attempt (6.00 in difficulty and 9.433 in execution) and 14.800 in the second attempt (5.600 in difficulty and 9.200 in execution).
The 24-year-old Filipino gymnast earlier ruled the men’s floor exercise event after finishing with 15.000 points.
