Gian Nazario on DLSU, UP coaches’ heated exchange: Nakituro lang ako

De La Salle University assistant coach Gian Nazario denied involvement in the verbal exchange between the Green Archers and the University of the Philippines Fighting Maroons coaching staffs during their UAAP Season 87 encounter on Sunday night.

Nazario stated that he had just joined his fellow Green Archers coaches when he noticed them standing up and engaging in a heated discussion with the Fighting Maroons’ coaches.

“Actually, nagulat ako nung nagtatayuan na ‘yung mga coaches at nagtuturuan na sila so tumayo na lang ako at nakituro na lang ako,” Nazario said in an interview after the Green Archers’ 68-56 win over the Fighting Maroons.

“I don’t really know honestly what transpired; I am just there to protect my coaches as well, so when everybody was standing up, I wanted to stand up; I wanted to be united with them,” he added.

During the television broadcast, Nazario was seen engaged in a shouting match with Fighting Maroons assistant coach Tom Chua while the score was tied at 42 in the third quarter.
Nazario also stated that the heightened emotions among the opposing coaching staffs were simply part of the game, given the significance of the match’s outcome.

“Siyempre emotions were really high at that point; nadala lang naman tayo lahat eh, and I think it was pacified well naman eh; hopefully, it is part of the game,” Nazario said.
