Ginebra admits San Miguel Beer’s June Mar Fajardo will be hard to stop

The Barangay Ginebra San Miguel Kings admitted that San Miguel Beermen center June Mar Fajardo presents a significant challenge as the two teams start their PBA Governors’ Cup semifinals series today at the PhilSports Arena in Pasig City.

Gin Kings assistant coach Richard del Rosario stated that it will take at least five players to stop or limit the eight-time PBA MVP due to his dominant presence on the court.

“Hindi isang tao lang ang puwedeng mag contain sa kanya, it’s going to take the five guys on the floor na magtulong-tulong kay June Mar,” Del Rosario said in an interview with DWAR Abante Radyo’s SPORTSNOW program.

“Of course, again, kaya nga malakas ang San Miguel eh, because of mga threat din ng mga people around June Mar,” he added. “So, at least, (we will) try to limit June Mar; ‘yun lang naman ang magagawa eh.”

The Gin Kings will have an undersized frontline, led by Japeth Aguilar, Justin Brownlee, and the returning Joe Devance.

Del Rosario added that head coach Tim Cone is considering utilizing a running game, similar to what the Converge FiberXers did against the Beermen in the quarterfinals. However, they will primarily stick to their signature triangle offense.

“Kapag may opportunity naman we will do it (running game), but of course ano rin kasi kami eh we rely on the system na kay coach Tim, and its really not mostly on ‘yung takbo lang ng takbo,” Del Rosario said.

“So kelangan may balance between ‘yung takbo tsaka ‘yung accurate execution,” he added. “Dalawang beses na namin silang nakalaban this conference, although they are a different team na naman kasi iba ‘yung import nila this time.”
