A former Marawi City mayor was seize in a checkpoint in Barangay San Martin in Villanueva town of Misamis Oriental on June 8.
The former mayor is allegedly linked to the rebellion in connection to the Maute group attacks in Marawi City. Sources claims that Salic was probably arrested due to his relations to the Maute clan - his wife's is a sister of Ominta “Farhana” Romato, the first wife of Cayamora Maute, patriarch of the Maute clan.
Cayamora Maute was arrested earlier this week in Davao City along with other four members of his family. However, his first wife Romato is still at large while her photo is included with other wanted members of the Maute group.
Meanwhile, Western Mindanao Command chief Lt. Gen. Carlito Galvez Jr. confirmed in a news website that the house in Marawi where government forces retrieved multi-million pesos worth of cash and cheques and ammunitions is owned by a Maranao clan which is involvled in a construction business. The information is based on a police and military intelligence.
A deceased couple identified to be Rolly and Marriam Dimaucor previously owned the residence which was located near Mapandi area.
7th Marine Battalion troops retrieved P52 million cash and P27 million cheques in the aforementioned house.
On the other hand, Cayamora Maute, father of the Maute brothers will be charged of rebellion and also illegal possession of firearms and explosives. The 67-year old and four others were apprehended in a checkpoint at Barangay Sirawan on a Tuesday morning.
Western Mindanao Command chief Lt. Gen. Carlito Galvez Jr. stated that children took over on the business after their parents passed away a decade ago.
“A follow-up verification is still being initiated,” he said.
According to a Mindanao lawyer, along with the stack of cash and cheques, one of the cheques was for contractor that operates outside the Marawi.
Reports allegedly states that the Maute group and Abu Sayyaf's joint forces named themselves as Dawlah Islamiya.
When he was arrested, Cayamora was riding a Toyota Grandia van which was drived by an Aljon Salazar Ismael. With him was his Kongan Alfonso Balawag who was believed to be Cayamora's third wife and their daughter Norjannah Balawag and her husband Benzarali Tingao.
