PBA extends suspension of practices, other team activities indefinitely

PBA commissioner Willie Marcial has extended the suspension of team activities such as practices and scrimmages indefinitely with the continuous spread of coronavirus (COVID-19) in the country.

Marcial issued a memorandum to all the teams informing such extension. The suspension was supposed to end on Friday.

“In light of the country's current situation, the Office of the Commissioner is extending all its member teams' two-week break from practices, scrimmages and other related activities which was supposed to end March 27, until further notice,” Marcial said.

The league suspended play following the government’s decision to impose an enhanced community quarantine which bars mass gatherings such as sporting events.

Prior to the suspension, San Miguel picked up a victory over Magnolia, 94-78, on opening night last March 8.

Marcial also urged all members of the PBA family to stay at home and follow the government’s directives.

“Declaration No. 929 places the whole country under state of calamity and the nation's capital under 'enhanced quarantine'. We ask your full cooperation and compliance and encourage everyone to stay fit and healthy in the confines and safety of their homes,” said Marcial.
