After all, President Rodrigo Duterte is just a human.

Incumbent Senator Chiz Escudero defended the President from criticisms about his 5-day absence from the public eye.

Escudero stated that the President's absence is not against the Philippine Constitution and being the President doesn't forbid him from taking a very quick vacation. He also said that there is no law that prohibits Duterte from taking some rest.

"Hindi krimen ang magbakasyon ang pangulo, hindi porke’t pangulo ka hindi na pwedeng magbakasyon at magpahinga," Escudero said.

Escudero added that if the President took a vacation or does not have any public engagements to attend, it doesn't mean that he is not doing his job as the leader of the Philippines. And if he even have a serious ailment or disease, the Constitution states that the Malacañang must inform the public about his real health condition.

"Maliwanag ang probinsyon ng Konstitusyon at ito’y alam ng mga nakapaligid sa Pangulo na kapag seryoso ang karamdaman ng pangulo ay dapat ipagbigay alam iyan sa publiko," Escudero said.

But Duterte did not have the obligation to inform the public if there is nothing serious to worry about his health, which Duterte often says in his speeches.

"Ngunit kung ordinaryong sakit at hindi seryoso ay hindi na kailangan ipagbigay alam sa publiko," the senator added.

President Duterte often states in his speeches that like other 70-year old individuals, he too suffers from the same illness they do.

"Seventy years old na ako. Yung lolo mo, tatay mo, at 70-years-old, alam mo sakit nila? Yun rin ang sakit ko," Duterte said in his public speeches.

"Ang sakit ko po, just to make it clear, talagang yung nagkaproblema ako, it’s Verger’s Disease. It is a constriction of the blood vessel for a person who, yung nicotine. Tapos yung isa, well, of course, sa inom. Kagaya mo rin, yung Barrett Esophigial thing, erosion dahil sa inom," he added.

The rumors about Duterte having serious health issues originated after he did not attend the ceremonial rites for Independence day held at Luneta Park on June 12 then the rumor made into a big deal after Duterte stopped appearing publicly.

On Friday, President Duterte finally appeared since the 12th of June where he discredited the rumors about him being seriously ill during his speech at Butuan City on Saturday.

"Nasa kama lang ako. Kayo lang nagsabi na-coma ako… Wrong spelling man ‘yan… Kung na-coma ako, magtindig kaya ako para mamut*ngin*?" Duterte joked.

"My state of health is what you see is what you get. I do not need anybody to ask me where I’m going. Kapag hindi niyo ko nakita ng limang araw, edi patay na," he added.

"The only problem is walang successor because there will be a struggle. Pagka ganon, if there’s a vacuum sa leadership, the military will always take over to control, to put things in order and maybe set an election," he said.

"So use your Robredo. Anong problema ninyo? May Bise-Presidente," he added.

"Kasi ang importante na might successor. So walang — might institutional succession, you observe it. So ano ba problema diyan, spekulasyon? Sa mga kababayan ko, ‘wag kayong magazine– Do not fear an excessive amount of," he mentioned.
