There’s an old maxim that goes, “hell hath no fury like a woman scorned.” Ly Chanel, a 23-year-old pregnant wife from Vietnam, perfectly embodies that age-old saying.
Ly had suspicions that her husband of 7 months, Chien Kho, was having an affair when he often went missing for extended periods of time. Ly, accompanied by a few of her friends, then decided to follow Chien. They ended up going into a motel in the Thai Nguyen province, in northeast Vietnam on July 18, 2017.
At the motel, Ly furiously burst into her husband’s motel room and attacked her husband’s mistress. Her friends pinned the girl down on the bed while Ly forcibly jammed hot chili peppers into the mistress’ privates.
Photos of the vicious assault were posted online and netizens shared their furious reactions over it. However, it was not the mistress who they were angry at. Many netizens condemned Ly and her friends, saying that what they did went too far. Some also asked why she did not do anything to her husband.
Although the mistress has so far refused to press charges against Ly, Atty. Giang Hong Thanh - a lawyer from the district attorney’s office - issued the following statement:
“It is necessary to share and sympathize with the wife's psychological state of affairs in this case if it is indeed the case that a woman who has been rubbed has damaged her family's well-being.”
“However, rubbing chili in another person's sensitive area and posting the clip on the internet is a sign of humiliating others. If chili smears cause injury to another woman's genitalia the wife may be dealt with under Article 104 of the Penal Code may be subject to administrative sanctions and a fine of $140 to $200.”
