A scenic view of the mountainside is what Instagram dreams are made of, and a road like the Mangatarem–Santa Cruz Road—more famously known as ‘Daang Kalikasan’—that provides said view is bound to be flocked by tourists.
It’s a no-brainer, really, especially since the four-lane road is wide enough to accommodate motorists stopping by to snap some photos for social media. More important, it also makes for a good road trip for the family or the barkada that wants to get away from the busy streets of Metro Manila even for a day. Word spreads quickly through cyberspace, too, so no wonder thousands of sightseers rushed to Daang Kalikasan to see it firsthand.
But the arrival of these sightseers eventually led to serious overcrowding, and a high number of accidents was reported along the new thoroughfare in the past week alone. Not only that, but after people came and went, the local government unit (LGU) had to clean up a hefty amount of trash in the area.

Now, the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has responded by temporarily closing off the area until the P1.5-billion project is completed. If you haven’t seen the view for yourself yet, you’ll have to wait for a while before you get to do so. For now, you can make do with this drone video the DPWH shot just a few days ago when it conducted an inspection along the new road. Check it out below.

Once completed, the 19.45km road will connect the provinces of Pangasinan and Zambales, specifically from the Tarlac-Pangasinan Road all the way to Santa Cruz. It is expected to cut travel time between the two regions by almost half.
What do you think of the view along Daang Kalikasan? Will you drive out there once construction is finished?
