Honda Japan to launch CT125 Hunter Cub via 'virtual motorcycle show'

The show must go on. Even with the cancellation of the Osaka Motorcycle Show and the Tokyo Motorcycle Show due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Honda will host a ‘virtual motorcycle show’ to introduce, among others, the new Honda CT125 Hunter Cub on March 27, 2020, at 12pm, Japan time (11am in the Philippines).

Team Red is positive that the motorcycle world is excited about this retro-styled utilitarian bike, which was first shown to the world as a concept at the 2019 Tokyo Motor Show. Honda followers across the globe will be able to view a virtual booth with a Dream Dealer setup.

The Hunter Cub shares its 124cc liquid-cooled, single-cylinder engine with two of its stablemates in Honda’s mini-moto line, which includes the Grom and the Monkey. The bike is equipped with a high-mounted air intake, filter and exhaust to allow it to survive river crossings.

The CT125 rides on a telescopic fork and a pair of coil-spring rear shocks, both with longer suspension travel. What makes it more off-road capable are the dual-sport tires (2.75 inches wide in front, and three inches wide at the rear) mounted on 17-inch spoked steel rims. Both front and rear brakes use single-piston calipers and cross-drilled rotors to deliver dependable stopping power even in wet conditions.

Despite its retro appeal, the Hunter Cub has some modern features like single-channel ABS (front brake) and LED lights. A single seat and a flat luggage rack attached to the rear fender give it a no-nonsense workhorse image. Also, the metal foot pegs are serrated to provide a grippy surface for the rider’s shoes. The bike is equipped only with a center stand; there’s no sidestand.

You’re probably wondering if the Philippine market will get the CT125 Hunter Cub. Well, we’ll wait to hear from Honda Japan if our country will get an allocation of units. For now, let’s wait for the online launch event, which you can watch via this link two days from now. Be ready with your popcorn and soda!
