Awe-inspiring!
This is the word I can think of to describe a female nurse from St. Luke’s Medical Center who is now a PUI and under quarantine for serving in the frontline in the battle against covid-19.
In a Facebook post, titled “From nurse to PUI real quick” Sheen Oreo Flores shared her story as a frontliner, working in one of the biggest hospitals country treating covid-19 patients.
Flores opened the FB post by describing how toxic the past few weeks it has been for them at St Luke’s, exhausted but can’t go home for fear of exposing their family to the vulnerable members of her family.
“We’ve been living inside the hospital for weeks caring for our patients. We are all tired, exhausted, and overwhelmed but can’t go home because we are all scared that we might bring the virus with us to our vulnerable families at home.”
But just lately, she has become another PUI or Person Under Investigation due to the nature of work and keeping her fingers crossed she won’t be showing any severe signs and symptoms while under quarantine.
“But these past few days were different, I became the PUI. So I need to wait until my quarantine is over and hopefully, no severe signs and symptoms will come out. “
Did she lose heart after becoming PUI? Flores said NO.
“After this phase, I will go back to the battlefield and continue to serve. This is just one of the risks that we are facing everyday as frontliners.”
Flores remarked that the nurses like her are being called with insensitive labels, they will stand committed to their oath.
“We may be unappreciated, uncompensated, called as ‘room nurses’, ‘katulong ng mga doctor’, atbp., but we will stand committed to our pledge.”
Flores punctuated the FB post with reassuring words to the public. “We work not because we are paid to do so, but because we are healthcare providers and we are all instruments of healing.”
