Klay Thompson confident of playing power forward position

Golden State Warriors sharpshooter Klay Thompson is up to the challenge of playing the power forward position in the upcoming season.

Warriors head coach Steve Kerr said in an interview that he might experiment with his roster and use Thompson as a power forward. At 6’6, the 33-year-old shooter would be undersized in that particular position.

However, Thompson expressed optimism that he can keep up with some of the elite power forwards in the NBA.

“Nowadays, it seems like the NBA is pretty positionless, and the power forward position is so different from when I was watching the game as a kid,” Thompson told NBC Sports.

The four-time NBA champion added that power forwards who can dominate in the post no longer exist in the league.

“Big fours like Kevin Garnett, Tim Duncan, all those great power forwards in the 2000s, Amar’e Stoudemire, there were so many, those guys who have that ability nowadays kind of play the five position,” he added. I don’t see it being the hardest transition for myself. I pride myself on being able to switch and guard every position. Not for long periods, but for short spurts.”

Kerr shared his plan to play Thompson as a power forward, as the Warriors are lacking big men on their roster. In addition, they acquired Chris Paul, who plays the point guard position just like Steph Curry. (MJD)
