Dave Ildefonso, Suwon defeat Rhenz Abando, Anyang

Dave Ildefonso and the Suwon KT Sonic Boom emerged victorious over Rhenz Abando and the Anyang Jung Kwan Jang Red Boosters, 94-85, in the Korean Basketball League on Friday night at the Anyang Indoor Stadium.

Ildefonso, a former standout of the Ateneo de Manila University Blue Eagles, posted seven points, one rebound, and one assist in almost 17 minutes as the Sonic Boom improved to a 7-5 win-loss slate.

Heo Hoon top-scored for Suwon with 19 points, including five three-pointers; Paris Bass and Michael Eric added 17 and 15 markers, respectively; and Heewon Han ended with 14 points.

Suwon KT coach Song Young-jin said he felt relieved that his team got back on the winning track in the tournament at the expense of the defending champion Red Boosters.

“I am happy to have broken our two-game losing streak. Also, compared to our poor performance last time, the players performed well today, and I am quite satisfied with them,” Song said.

“We definitely set the tone from the second quarter. In the first quarter, all players had fouls, but we played hard defense,” he added. “I think we achieved a valuable victory with many wins.”

Darryl Monroe top-scored with 18 points, Abando added 13 markers, and Jeong Hyo-geun contributed 11 markers as the Red Boosters dropped to a 9-5 win-loss slate.
