SMB aims to finish the job against Converge

San Miguel coach Jorge Gallent is confident that Converge will come back strong when they face off again on Monday in the PBA Governors’ Cup quarterfinals.

Despite the Beermen holding a 2-0 lead in their best-of-five series against the FiberXers, Gallent emphasized that his team cannot afford to relax.

“I’m sure they’re gonna come out strong. We have to stay focused, bring the energy, and not think about the 2-0 lead. We have to think it’s a do or die, so we’d not relax but come out strong and play 48 minutes of basketball,” said Gallent.

Gallent is particularly concerned about his team neglecting certain aspects of their game against a dangerous Converge side.
The Beermen narrowly secured their wins, taking Game 1 at 102-95 and Game 2 at 107-100, which leaves little room for complacency.

“Converge is a strong team with a good import. We’re just playing better in the last six minutes, which is good; our composure is always there come the endgame. We have to stick where we’re good at,” said Gallent.

Import EJ Anosike has been a valuable asset for the Beermen, complementing June Mar Fajardo’s play seamlessly. However, Anosike isn’t counting Converge out, acknowledging the FiberXers’ potential to bounce back.

“The series isn’t over. Every game counts and every game matters,” said the import.

Gallent said the good thing about San Miguel is its composure during the end game.

“We were really composed, especially in the last six minutes of the ball game. We are only up by one, and the players really found a way to win now. They played their hearts out in the stretch, and that’s why we got the victory,” said Gallent.
