Remember Jennica Garcia? She is a Kapuso talent and the daughter of actress Jean Garcia, but took a break from showbiz in 2014. Why? To become a full-time mom to her lovely baby girl, Athena Mori, with her husband, Alwyn Uytingco.
Jennica shares her insights and first-hand experience in raising Mori through her blog, Kalinga ni Nanay. She constantly emphasized the need to be simple in raising a curious and playful kid.
She gave birth through normal delivery and breastfed Mori throughout the nursing period. Without a household help, Jennica did everything at home!

She wrote: “Mori is starting to walk already, and I feel that when I do household chores at home, nagi-guilty ako...'pag inaantay niya ako. There are so many things that we can do like we can go outside to walk in the park, we can color na, we can do arts and crafts together. But we can’t do it because she’s waiting for me while I wash the dishes. So, sabi ko, I think it’s time [to have a helper]…someone lang will do the laundry and help me with the cooking and cleaning of the house.”
Being a hands-on mom has its perks, of course! Jennica learned more about Mori and how to become a better mother.
She shared how at nine months, Mori is already potty trained. It is because Jennica is a Certified Natural Infant Hygiene Consultant that encourages early potty training for ready babies.

In her blog, she also draws attention to the kid’s need to play outside and get dirty. Getting a scratch or bruise is not a big deal to Jennica and Alwyn.
For Mori’s 2nd birthday, Jennica listed a few things she would want as gifts for the tot. However, she pleaded for no plastic or battery-operated toys, and high-end clothes for the bambina. She also stressed her no-gadgets / screen time rule.
In an Instagram post, Alwyn gave Mori two bags of organic soil, plant boxes, and herbs as birthday gifts! “Early Sunday mornings are for gardening,” Jennica captioned on a photo of Alwyn and Mori watering the plants.
