Kyrie Irving on his ESPN ranking: ‘Don’t mean a thing’

Dallas Mavericks guard Kyrie Irving said that he does not care about player rankings after ESPN rated him as the 34th best player in the NBA entering the season.

Some players who were ranked higher than Irving are Mikal Bridges (33rd), Jalen Brunson (32nd), and Pascal Siakam (25th).

According to ESPN, a “team-issued suspension and Brooklyn’s eventual granting of Irving’s trade request” affected the ranking of the one-time NBA champion. In addition, Irving’s arrival in Dallas last season resulted in disaster as the Mavericks failed to enter the playoffs.

Irving reacted to the ranking on social media.

“Who. TF. Cares. I Never will,” he said. “Rankings don’t mean a damn thing in the league, especially not from ESPN or any of these other media platforms. Majority of the analysts are not credible sources in my eyes and I don’t respect them or their opinions.”

Irving may not be a Top 30 or Top 20 talent in the NBA, but he is fortunate to play alongside Luka Doncic, who is certain to be one of the Top 10 players on ESPN’s list. The sports website has yet to release the names of those who are in the Top 10. (MJD)
