Two alumni from Colegio de San Juan de Letran were recorded using offensive language directed at the Knights team in their recent NCAA Season 99 men’s basketball tournament match against the College of St. Benilde Blazers.
In a video that went viral on Thursday night, an unidentified male alumnus from Letran, dressed in a dark shirt, was being restrained as he attempted to confront the Knights team. Subsequently, he directed offensive language towards two members of the Letran team.
“Kayong dalawa put—–a nyo! Kung gusto niyo ilabas ang katarantaduhan ng Letran, sabihin niyo. Put—–a nyo! ” he said.
In the early part of the video, his companion, another Letran alumnus in a white shirt, was heard using unruly language towards the team.
“Utak lang….common sense… delicadeza…taga La Salle din ako, MBA, pero…ta—-a! Hindi niyo kasi kilala ang Letran eh,” said the Letran alumnus.
The two men were reportedly the same individuals who were escorted out of the FilOil EcoOil Arena in San Juan at the conclusion of the Knights-Blazers game last Sunday.
Reports state that the two individuals threw empty bottles of mineral water at Knights assistant coaches Matthew Sia and Lou Gatumbato for participating in the singing of the La Salle hymn with the Blazers.
Sia previously attended high school at La Salle Greenhills and later coached its boys’ basketball team, the Greenies, while Gatumbato was a former member of the Blazers team.
The NCAA, for its part, has not issued a statement or comment regarding the incident since it took place last Sunday.
However, several Letran supporters expressed disappointment on social media regarding the actions of their two fellow alumni.

“Era nila sguro yung Letran-La Salle rivalry kaya iba impact sa kanila bro. Can’t really blame them if that is the reason behind the ejection. Kahit boss ko from DLSU sa office na naka witness ng Letran vs. La Salle rivalry tells the same thing eh. Still you’re right about decency and maturity on the live games but it somehow runs in their blood that you cannot simply take away.”

The Knights had a disappointing NCAA campaign, securing only two victories in their 17 matches so far in the double-round eliminations, which hindered their ability to defend their crown.
Letran will conclude their campaign this afternoon against their rivals, the San Beda University Red Lions.
