Rhenz Abando guides Anyang to victory against Suwon KT

Rhenz Abando made his presence felt in his return for the Anyang Jung Kwan Jang Red Boosters as they scored an 83-81 victory over the Suwon KT Sonic Boom in the Korean Basketball League on Friday at the Suwon KT Arena.

The former Colegio de San Juan de Letran Knights star finished with a team-high 18 points to go with four assists and four blocks as the defending champions improved to 18-35 for ninth place.

According to Abando, he decided to play even if he is not yet fully recovered from his back injury, as the Red Boosters are in a tight battle with the Goyang Sono Skygunners (19-34) for the eighth and last quarterfinals seat.

“In the morning training, the coach said that we should do our best because there are two games left in the season, but it is not over. I think I performed well after hearing that,” Abando said in a post-game interview.

“I am not in the same condition as before the injury. When I bend or straighten my body, my back hurts,” he added. “Mentally, I haven’t completely forgotten that memory (the injury), yet that is why I am still limited with my movements.”

The Red Boosters’ last game of the season will be against Miguel Oczon and the Ulsan Hyundai Mobis Phoebus on Sunday evening.
