UST girls volleyball setter Maile Salang transfers to DLSU

The University of Santo Tomas Junior Golden Tigresses lost one of their key players after setter Maile Salang opted to transfer to De La Salle University.

Fastbreak learned from a source on Sunday that Salang first sought the blessing of Junior Golden Tigresses head coach Emilio “Kung Fu” Reyes before making her move to DLSU.

“Maile had the blessings of coach Kung Fu and other UST officials before she transferred to DLSU,” the source said. “She wants to pursue a business course, which she believes she can attain there.”

The source added that, while finishing her high school years at DLSU, Salang will also train under Lady Spikers mentor Ramil de Jesus to prepare her for college.

Salang played a significant role in the Junior Golden Tigresses’ bronze medal finish in the UAAP Season 86 girls volleyball tournament and their championship run in the PNVF U-18 Women’s Championships earlier this year.

Her solid showing for the Junior Golden Tigresses earned her a call-up to be part of the Alas Pilipinas U-18 girls volleyball team that competed in the 22nd Princess Cup SEA Women’s U18 Volleyball Championship and the 15th Asian Women’s U18 Volleyball Championship recently in Bangkok, Thailand.

With Salang’s departure, the Junior Golden Tigresses will now rely on 6-footer Aneeza Dayle Santos as their starting setter.
