Alyssa Valdez urges undrafted players not to give up on PVL dreams

Creamline Cool Smashers star Alyssa Valdez has urged the undrafted players in the inaugural Premier Volleyball League (PVL) Rookie Draft to not give up on their dreams of playing in the professional league.

According to Valdez, even if none of the 12 teams have taken a chance on the 24 unselected rookie aspirants, they are very much part of the PVL as they enter free agency.

“Alam mo ‘yun, we all want them to be part of the community. They are still part of the community; free agent na sila ngayon,” Valdez said in an interview published on the PVL website.

“I told them this is just a stepping stone for them para abutin ‘yung mga dreams nila to be a part of any teams in the PVL,” she added. “Who would’ve thought na aabot sila sa ganitong point in their lives also?”

By entering the PVL’s free agency market, the undrafted players are now free to try out for any team they wish to play for.

Valdez, meanwhile, said that the introduction of the rookie draft is a huge milestone for the PVL as a professional league.

“Being part of the volleyball community, akala natin, maglalaro lang tayo until college, but now, we’re really legit na pro with all this rookie drafting,” Valdez said.
