Ginebra denies interest in replacing Justin Brownlee with Myles Powell

The Barangay Ginebra San Miguel Kings have dismissed rumors circulating on social media about potentially replacing Justin Brownlee with Myles Powell as their import ahead of the PBA Governors’ Cup quarterfinals.

Team manager Reymark Rodriguez clarified that there is no reason for coach Tim Cone to replace Brownlee, as he is not injured and participated in the team’s practice on Monday.

Speculation about Brownlee being replaced by Powell arose after he exited during overtime in the Gin Kings’ 103-99 loss to the NLEX Road Warriors on Sunday evening.

“Cramps lang. Cramps lang ‘yun (kay Brownlee). Nag-cramps lang siya (against the Road Warriors). (Nung Monday) nagpractice na siya,” Rodriguez said in an interview with DWAR Abante Radyo’s SPORTSNOW program.

Powell previously played as a reinforcement for the PBA guest team Bay Area Dragons, which lost to Brownlee and the Gin Kings in the finals of the 2022-2023 PBA Commissioner’s Cup.

The Gin Kings are set to face the Meralco Bolts in a best-of-five quarterfinals round beginning on Thursday.
