The NLEX Road Warriors paid tribute to PBA legend Asi Taulava by retiring his jersey No. 88 at the Philsports Arena on Friday.
NLEX reactivated the 50-year-old for their game against Talk ‘N Text, enabling Taulava to surpass Robert Jaworski’s record as the longest-tenured player in PBA history.
“PBA fans thank you for supporting, thank you for supporting (the) PBA throughout my 24-year career. It’s awesome,” he said during his jersey retirement during the halftime.
Taulava, a 17-time PBA All-Star and four-time Mythical Team member, was among the league’s premier big men in the 2000s.
He joined the league as a direct hire for the then-Mobiline Phone Pals and later played for the Coca-Cola Tigers and Meralco before finding his place at NLEX. Additionally, he holds the distinction of being one of the PBA’s 40 Greatest Players.
