The Nueva Ecija Capitals ended the year on a winning note as they walloped the Novaliches QC Warriors, 96-74, in the Pilipinas Super League President’s Cup on late Wednesday night at the FilOil EcoOil Arena in San Juan City.
Bobby Balucanag had his best game of the tournament with 15 points, six rebounds, two assists, and a steal as the Capitals head into the Christmas break with a 7-0 win-loss slate.
“Ang gusto lang ng coaches ay i-enjoy namin ‘yung game bago matapos ‘yung taon,” said Balucanag, who was tapped by head coach Jerson Cabiltes to step up for their injury-hit frontline.
Emman Calo chipped in 12 points, including two three-point conversions, while Kalen Axel Doromal also connected two outside shots to finish with 10 points for the Nueva Ecija team.
Nueva Ecija immediately imposed their dominance on Novaliches with a 27-16 lead after the first quarter, which later grew to 53-34 at the half behind their efficient inside and outside conversion.
The Capitals continued their manhandling of the Warriors in the second half as they padded the lead to as high as 32 points at 81-49 following a three-point jumper from Doromal.
Deo Timajo finished with 22 points, including four three-point conversions, while Jonnel Bauzon and Rojay Santos had 12 and 11 points, respectively, as the Warriors dropped to 3-4.
